THE RIDE:
Pulpit Rock is a great break from your normal ride. It’s not too hard, it’s quick, and it’s close. Definitely something to put on your list.
THE ROUTE:
My preface: you’re probably going to get off track. But don’t worry, that’s part of being outside.
Park in the Bally Total Fitness Parking Lot. Take a right on Anglo Drive and cruise straight through Rockhurst Blvd. In about 50 yards there will be a mysterious sidewalk on your left. Take that.
After about a mile of easy singletrack, you’ll hit a small dirt road. Take a left and then an immediate right on to a darker dirt road lined with sunflowers. I know this sounds tricky, but your goal is to loop around Pulpit Rock. With that in mind, it’s pretty simple.
Before you hit Nevada, the dirt road bends north. Keep on it until you find a little four-wheel drive road on the right. After 1/8 mile of that road, you’ll be on singletrack again. Just follow it around.
When you get on the North side of Pulpit Rock, there’s a crossroads. Straight will keep you on the loop; right is a quick 100-yard shot to the top.
Now the trail is heading east. There are some small, technical climbs in this section. When it starts to mellow out, you’ll see a little trail by the sewer drain. Take that if you want some more singletrack. If not, go straight and get yourself some pavement.
Soon the fun stuff runs out and you’re on a bigger trail. It dumps you on Spurwood Rd which connects with Vickers. Bally’s is just up the road.
GOOD TO KNOW:
-In places, the trail is a little overgrown. Wear pants if you don’t want scratches.
-You can’t get lost here. You might go off the trail, but you can always find your way out.
